Questions

Common questions

What does a medical oncologist do?

A medical oncologist is a physician who treats cancer with medicines. That can include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy, and supportive care. They also help interpret reports, coordinate with surgeons and radiation oncologists, and plan follow-up. They do not replace every other specialist involved in cancer care.

When should I consult a medical oncologist?

People usually consult after a biopsy or scan suggests cancer, when a diagnosis is already confirmed, or when a second opinion is needed on a treatment plan. A new lump, unexplained bleeding, persistent cough, or sudden weight loss should be assessed by a doctor first. This website cannot decide whether your symptoms are cancer.

What cancers does Dr. Nishith Vaddeboina treat?

Dr. Nishith Vaddeboina’s medical oncology practice covers solid tumours and haematological malignancies. Published areas include breast, lung, colorectal, liver, kidney, gynecological, pancreatic and biliary cancers, lymphoma, and leukemia, along with other solid tumours reviewed in consultation. The right plan depends on the reports, not on a cancer name alone.

What is chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy uses medicines to damage cancer cells or slow their growth. It may be given into a vein or as tablets, before or after other treatment, or to control advanced disease. It can also affect healthy cells, so blood counts and side effects are monitored. Not every cancer is treated with chemotherapy.

What is immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy helps the immune system recognise cancer. Checkpoint inhibitor medicines are one common type. They are useful in selected cancers and sometimes only when a biomarker is present. They can cause immune-related side effects that need prompt reporting. A consultation is required to know whether immunotherapy applies to a particular case.

What is targeted therapy?

Targeted therapy uses medicines aimed at a specific change that helps a cancer grow, such as a gene alteration or an overactive protein. Testing is usually needed before these drugs are considered. A target on a report does not always mean a suitable medicine is available or that it will work for that person.

What is precision oncology?

Precision oncology means using tumour details — receptors, genes, or other biomarkers — to narrow treatment choices. It can guide targeted therapy, immunotherapy, or clinical-trial discussions. It does not guarantee a match, a response, or a particular outcome. Some people still receive standard chemotherapy or supportive care.

How do I book an appointment?

Call +91 89197 91040, email nishithvad@gmail.com, or send a WhatsApp note from the appointment page with your name and phone number. A message is a request. It does not confirm a visit or start a doctor–patient relationship until the clinic accepts it.

Where does Dr. Nishith Vaddeboina consult in Hyderabad?

The published consultation address is American Oncology Institute, First Floor, 1-100/1/CCH, Citizens Hospital Road, near Aparna Sarovar Road, Nallagandla, Hyderabad, Telangana 500019. The biography also lists a consultant role at Renova Century Hospitals. Call ahead to confirm where to attend.

Can I bring previous reports for consultation?

Yes. Biopsy reports, scans, blood tests, and a list of previous cancer treatment make the first visit more useful. Bring films or digital copies if you have them. If something is missing, the clinic can advise what is still needed. Do not send full medical records through an open form if you would rather share them in person.

Can cancer treatment be personalised?

Often, yes. Doctors look at the cancer type, stage, biomarkers, other illnesses, and what matters to the patient. Two people with the same cancer name may not receive the same plan. Personalised planning is a process of choosing among suitable options. It is not a promise of cure or of a particular result.
